Episode 3 – ATD Painters
On Episode 3 of Builders & Beer, our host Mark Blickenstaff, the General Manager of Moore Lumber and Hardware in Castle Rock, Colorado is joined by Justin and Matt from Attention to Detail (ATD) Painters. At the beginning of this episode, Matt discusses how ATD Painters came to be. Both Matt and Justin are businessmen, not painters, by trade. Matt was in real estate and was seeing so much frustration from clients regarding a need to repaint their homes. He saw an opportunity to make the exterior painting industry better and more customer-friendly – which is how ATD was born!
The goals of ATD Painters include hiring the best painters possible, having A+ customer service that accompanies the high-quality painting, and treating their employees the best in the business.
The guys continue the episode by going into the details of how the painting process works. During the bidding process, ATD uses their own, custom-designed software that takes all aspects of the job into account, giving the customer a very accurate and very specific bid. Then comes time to pick color/product. Mark reiterates Justin and Matt’s rave about the high-quality product from this episode’s sponsor Benjamin Moore. Everyone agrees product means everything and ATD will not use lower quality product (paint or caulking) because they value a job well done. They also discuss submission of colors to HOA and how important that process is to start earlier in the year in order to avoid delays. After bidding and color is approved, they power wash the house and prep (including caulking, checking trim, and fixing siding). Once all that is done, it’s time to PAINT! They spray the house and hand-paint the trim.
After painting is complete, they make a point to do a final walk-through with both the lead painter as well as the homeowner. Both Matt and Justin agree that ATD has gotten so many 5 star reviews because they value communication and they don’t have a customer pay for a job until that walk-through proves everyone is satisfied!
Thank you again to our sponsor Benjamin Moore. Thank you as well to Burly Brewing Company for the beer. Cheers builders!
