Episode 5 – Southern Charm HVAC

On Episode 5 of Builders & Beer, host Mark Blickenstaff, the General Manager of Moore Lumber and Hardware in Castle Rock, Colorado chats with Curtis Anderson, the Owner of Southern Charm HVAC, also local to Castle Rock, Colorado. Curtis has a passion for all things Castle Rock including being a resident and starting Southern Charm HVAC approximate 1 year ago. Curtis is 2nd generation in HVAC work, learning the trade from a very early age and working with his father. He continues to put his passion into his work and now, his own business.

Mark and Curtis are both BIG fans of the DIY-er! A majority of the episode reviews the simple and safe maintenance a homeowner can provide to their heating and air systems from a DIY perspective. Things discussed for your furnace include: changing the filters every 30-90 days, checking simple operating components, cleaning water tubing, and clearing around pressure tubes. Things discussed for your air conditioner include: changing/cleaning the filters, cleaning the fan blades, and simple checks to the exterior unit.

When it comes to filters, Curtis discusses his preference for the cheap and thin ones for multiple reasons. He talks about how thinner filters last longer, clog less quickly, and allow more air to pass through the system, which avoids clogging and potentially overheating the system. Cheap – appealing to every homeowner!

Southern Charm HVAC, along with any of your HVAC needs, also can install and add to your duct work in your home. However, for duct cleaning, Curtis highly recommends another local-ish company, Parker Duct Cleaning and owner Jimmie Hamilton.

Southern Charm HVAC is a great option to be your first call for routine maintenance on your furnace/heating system and your air conditioner seasonally: around March/April for your AC, around September/October for your furnace. And of course, when trouble arises with your HVAC.
